Manual: SERP preview
The feature "SERP preview" of Visual SEO Studio, documented in detail.
SERP preview
The SERP preview tool shows how likely the selected page appears in the SERP of a search engine.
It is important to take care of how the page appears in SERP in order to maximize the CTR (Click Through Rate), the probability that a user will click the link after reading the content shown in SERP.
Title and the meta description should invite the reader to visit the page while communicating (briefly, but exhaustively) the content of the page they refer to; we recommend choosing clear and concise text, relevant to the content of the page.
Title
The HTML page title, as read from the title HTML tag.
This is one of the page elements with greater SEO relevance for a good positioning in search engines. The title should describe efficiently and briefly the page content. It should not be duplicated (no other pages should have the same title) and should not be excessively long to avoid its truncation in the SERP (use the tool "SERP preview" to verify the title were shown in its entirety).
In the past it was common adding among its first words the main keyword, today also synonyms are correctly interpreted by search engines to categorize a page. Keep in mind that today's search engines are much better than in the past in understanding a page semantic content, so ensure your titles are really aligned to the page contents.
URL
Uniform Resource Locator, the resource address.
For a better search engine optimization it is preferable having "friendly" URLs (i.e. URLs anticipating the page content) and not too long.
Meta Description
The description snippet suggested to be shown in the SERP.
It is specified within the HTML head section using the meta tag with attributes name="description" and content="...".
It should be attractive in order to increase the CTR (Click-Through Rate), the probability for a user to click on the link in SERP to visit the page.
Title character counter
It is the text field containing the number of characters present in the title.
From a SEO perspective there is no minimum nor maximum limit for the number of characters that make up the title, however it is advisable that the title would not be too long to be truncated nor too short not to effectively anticipate (albeit synthetically) the content of the page it refers to.
It should also be noted that the width of the title in the SERP preview should be expressed in pixels rather than characters, however we have decided to provide the length in characters to provide the user with an immediately understandable information about the current length.
Meta description character counter
It is the text field containing the number of characters present in the meta description tag.
From a SEO perspective, similarly as for the title, there is no minimum nor maximum limit for the number of characters that make up the meta description, it is however advisable that it is not too long to be truncated nor too short to not effectively anticipate (albeit synthetically) the content of the page to which it refers.
Similarly to the title it would be better to talk about the width of the meta description in the SERP preview in terms of pixels rather than characters, however we decided to provide the length in characters to provide the user immediately understandable information about the current length.
